The words of Isaiah resonate daily in the heart of Mission Alive. Isaiah expressed a profound concern for the marginalized and vulnerable. He passionately conveyed God's message of compassion, justice and restoration for those who are oppressed, downtrodden or overlooked. Isaiah rebuked injustice and exploitation of the weak, challenging us to…
"learn to do right; seek justice, defend the oppressed" (Isaiah 1:17).
He depicted a vision of God's kingdom where the marginalized would find refuge and inclusion.
The oppressed, downtrodden and overlooked in 2023
We have all had a glimpse of the marginalized in our cities. Through the eyes of a Mission Alive planter, some of our most vulnerable are seen living out of their cars everyday. One, a single mom with four kids all under the age of six. Or, eleven men and women wandering, struggling with bi-polar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Or, men bound in sexual addiction living an empty life with no fulfillment or sense of purpose to which God has created them. Isaiah's words continue to resonate today, reminding us of our divine call to care for the marginalized - the oppressed, downtrodden and overlooked.
Defending the Oppressed in 2023
This is our work together. It is knowing your home can’t possibly meet the needs of the oppressed and instead starting a housing program born out of an old motel to provide each one a personal refuge. Seeing that mission grow from just a handful to sixty lost people in just sixty days since late June. It is the work necessary to carry out eleven mental health assessments. This Christ-like care opens a door for His life changing power where a man like Lloyd chooses Jesus over his crystal meth addiction.
Our work together, our clarion call is to reach 100 marginalized communities in Urban, Immigrant, University, Transitioning Suburban, Rural and Native American settings. To bring the good news and hope of Jesus Christ. To find the woman at the well - the addict - the single mom living in her car.
