At this point, Mission Alive is halfway through the Reimagining Church blog series. First, I want to thank those who have given their time and talents to write such amazing and challenging articles! You have stretched our thinking about the future of the church. Chris Flanders kicked off the series. He cataloged many innovations already present among Christian churches – and followed it with the affirmation, “We can be open to fresh expressions while staying theologically centered.” Claire Frederick encouraged us to think about new permutations of church, specifically referring to the digital/presence divide. Mark Love invited us to reimagine Jesus as a necessary step in reimagining the church. I could go on to highlight how each of our authors has helped us on this journey of reimagination. But our journey has just begun!
Second, I want to prepare you for what is coming. We will have articles on incarnational praxis, social displacement, religious trauma, post-Christendom leadership, and other topics in the vein of practical ministry. Our Reimagining Church series will pick back up on Wednesday, April 10th, so make sure you check your inbox every Wednesday to stay up to date on the conversation. Also, if you have friends, colleagues, or congregants who would benefit from this rich conversation, please pass along the web link.
Mission Alive believes that the future of the church in North America will require insightful and creative leaders who are not afraid to reimagine our Christian faith across various topics. This series is just a start. It is just to whet our curiosity – for the future is coming and indeed here. Please join the conversation, let your voice be heard, and help us think more deeply and more creatively for the sake of the Mission of God!
